MORE FINDINGS ON RISKS FOR PROSTATE CANCER
Comparing mortality rates from prostate cancer in 59 countries, they conclude that a high overall calorie intake and a high intake of total fat and animal products (specifically milk meat and poultry) can increase these rates. On the other hand eating lots of cereals, soybeans, nuts and oil seeds, as well as consuming fish, is strongly correlated with lower rates of death from the disease. Milk onsumption, but not butter and cheese, was related to increased prostate mortality, while consumption of soybean -based products (soy milk, tofu, tempeh and miso) was related to decreased mortality. Members of the cabbage family of vegetables (kale, cauliflower, brussel sprouts, kohlrabi and broccoli) were also found to be highly protective, as were breads containing flaxseed, rye and buckwheat flour.
